In this guide I will show you how to create a DVD, complete with custom DVD menu, using ConvertXtoDVD.

ConvertXtoDVD is a well known dvd authoring program that makes it easy for you to convert and author any video files to DVD video to play well on your DVD player. With this tool you can easily create personalized menus with many templates, add subtitles to your videos and burn them directly to DVDs. In this guide I will show you how to create custom DVD menu using the program. You can free download ConvertXtoDVD trial or buy it now(15% Off). Just install and run it so that we can move on with this guide.

Now let's begin…

Step 1. Below is the main ConvertXToDVD window. It may seem a little too basic now but you’ll soon see how efficient it can be. For the beginning lets go to "Settings" -> "General".

First we will set the working folder, which is the folder that ConvertXToDVD will save the DVD video files before burning them to a DVD. Make sure that the drive that the folder is in has many GBs of free space and set the working folder.

In "DVD specification" tab you can select between PAL (for Europe) and NTSC (for US and Asia), as well as adjust the video resolution just in case you want to do this. Default values are ok however.

Next in "Encoding" tab you can choose your target DVD output size: DVD-5 (Single Layer, 4.7 GB), DVD-9 (Double Layer, 8.5 GB), or a custom value (in MB). This option is useful when you want to reduce the size of the DVD movie to fit a DVD Disc. ConvertXtoDVD will make sure during conversion that the output file size is small enough to fit on the type of target size you selected.

Step 2. We are back to the main windows and it's time to add some files to our DVD. To do so, simply click on the green cross "Add" button (1) and select the video files you want to convert.

You’ll have then a video file list on the program’s interface. ConvertXtoDVD will automatically create a DVD menu and each video file will become a separate Titleset (2).

Since a DVD disc has certain space the more videos you add the worse the quality of the final DVD may be since ConvertXtoDVD will encode your video/audio to reduce the file size to fit on the single disc. Therefore you can have a look at the "Encoding option advisor" (3) to see what the quality will be. Please note that you can not "increase" quality by choosing the DVD-9 option for a single layer project. Keep in mind: ConvertXtoDVD cannot invent quality where it does not already exist. You cannot convert a mediocre file and expect to have even better quality after the conversion.

Step 3. ConvertXtoDVD comes with many menu templates. To get to the list of menu templates, click the + beside DVD Options (1) , you will see a "Template Now Used" option first(2).

Double click "Template Now Used" option and you will notice a select box will appear. Click the box and you will have the full list of available menu templates from ConvertXtoDVD (3). Here you can change the template used for your project. To do so, you can scroll through the list of available templates, select one preferred template, then click on the green check-box to apply the template. Note the template selected will be used for all Titlesets in this project.

Step 4. Click the + beside DVD Options (1) and Title Menu parameters (2) to reveal all options for the Menu item. Lets see the options one by one.

First you can edit the text which will be shown at top of the title menu by double-clicking on it and setting the name (3). By default it is set to "My DVD". Next you can select how the DVD should behave by setting DVD play options (4). You can also check the Video Preview option(5) to have the Video Preview window shown on the right hand side to have a preview of how the menu will look like.

Now you can customize the Menu with fonts and your music and background image if you want.

First you can edit the Title text for Title menu, just double-click on it and change your Title text for Title menu.

1) Enter the desired title text here
2) Shows if the title text will fit into the assigned text area/field (green = ok, red = text is too long/ large font size)
3) Text style (pre-defined) to be used for this text / select other text style (down arrow)
4) Click this icon/button to edit text styles
5) Click here to apply your changes.

Then you can change the Background video / image for Title menu. Double-click on it and change your background image/video.

1) Possible choices:

Use a custom file – allows selecting a video/image file to be used as background. If you use a image, it should have a size of 720*540 pixels / aspect ratio 4:3, to have no distorted picture.
Remove – no background video/image will be used.
Do not change – will use the default setting as defined in the menu template.
2) If a video has been selected as background, specify the starting time code to use from the video. Up to 30 seconds(depending on chosen template) of the video will play in loop here as the background from the starting time you indicated.
3) Click here to apply your changes once you are done. You should see then these changes in the preview window.
4) Displays the path/name of the selected video/image file (only if Use a custom file is selected)
5) Specify the opacity for the background video/image (0 = transparent, 100 = opaque)
6) Click this icon to browse for an video/image file (only if Use a custom file is selected)

Finally you can change Background audio for Title menu in the same way as changing background image/video.

Step 5. Right next comes the video properties. First in the Titleset menu you can add thumbnails of each Titleset for easier and faster access to them. By default the thumbnail will be taken from the first frame of each video. However you can change this by double clicking on the thumbnail option (1). ConvertXtoDVD also allows you selecting an custom video/image file to be used as thumbnail.

You will notice the audio of each video has been automatically imported (2) as ConvertXToDVD supports almost all formats. But you can also add you own audio (for example commentary) by right-clicking on "Audio" and selecting "Add Audio". You can also click on each audio channel and set the language.

Then we move to the subtitle settings. If you had the subtitles in the same folder with each video file and they also have the same name they will be automatically inserted (3). If you don’t, right click on the "Subtitle (0 stream)" and browse to where you keep them.

Finally you can review the Chapters (4) and add more if you like as well as edit the Titleset name which is what will appear in the main menu as the title of this video. Follow the same steps to configure all your videos and move to the next step.

Step 6. We are finally ready to convert. You may want of course to see how your final DVD menu will look like. To do this click the Preview button (1) and you can take a look at the whole DVD, including the menus in the Video Preview Window (2). If you are satisfied with the result click Convert (3) to start the converting process!

Step 7. When the conversion is over you will be prompted to insert a blank DVD disk in your DVD burner and the burn process will start.

Finally burning finishes and your new DVD is ready for your player. Enjoy!

How to add an intro video on my DVD disk to play before the main menu appears? This is one of the common questions asked on DVD authoring forums. In this guide I will show you how to simply add an intro video clip to DVD. To be specific, the video clip will automatically play before the main menu is displayed and will return to main menu when the play ends, and nobody will find the intro video on your menu page.

Here we will use Womble EasyDVD to do this job. It is not freeware, but don’t worry because you can try it for a month, without any limitations(no watermark, no function disabled or crippled). You can free download Womble EasyDVD here. You can also learn the other guides about Womble EasyDVD by following the links below:

How to create a basic DVD with Womble EasyDVD?

How to remove unwanted scenes from DVD movie without re-encoding?

How to put(combine, merge) multiple DVDs on a single DVD?

Now let's begin…

Step 1. Run Womble EasyDVD, below is the main EasyDVD window. First we need to create a new DVD project. To do this, click "New" button in the Start stage, we will be forwarded to the Source stage.

Note near the top of the main window, there is a navigation bar consisting of 6 buttons, "Start", "Source", "Menu", "Preview", "Output" and "Burn". These buttons represent the various steps in DVD authoring. Only Start and Source steps are accessible when we start EasyDVD, and the other steps are disabled since the project is empty. As soon as we add video files to the project, those other steps will be enabled, then we can jump to any step by clicking on the corresponding button.

Step 2. The Source stage is where you can load your input video files, perform some basic editing if needed, and create chapter points.

Before we add in our input video files, you might notice that there are actually two "Add" buttons here. Well, the top "Add" button(1), with the movie reel icon, is for adding what EasyDVD refers to as "Movies". The bottom "Add" button(2) with the film strip icon is for adding "Clips". A "Movie" generally contains one or more clips; and each clip can be a single video file, or a whole or a part of a DVD movie.

EasyDVD treats each Movie as a separate Title on the DVD(A DVD ‘Title’ is generally a logically distinct section of a DVD-Video. For example the main feature film on a DVD might be Title 1, a behind-the-scenes documentary might be Title 2 and a selection of cast interviews might be Title 3). In this example we will add three Movies – two main movies and a short intro video. First, click the top "Add" button in Movie Manager(the upper left window). In the pop-up Open window, find the first "Movie"(1) you want to add and click Open(2). "Open DVD Folder" can be checked(3) if you want to add a full VIDEO_TS folder, with DVD files ready to use.

After adding the first Movie, an icon named Movie 1 is added in Movie Manager window to represent the movie and you will notice that Movie 1 consists of 4 video clips in the Clip Manager window(the lower left window). If you want to add more clips to the Movie, you can click the "Add" button in Clip Manager window and then add more video clips.

To add the second main movie(Movie 2)and the intro video(Movie 3), simply click the "Add" button in Movie Manager and repeat the steps above. Now you can see a Movie List with 3 Movies.

Since Movie 3 is the intro video, we will then select it as the "First Play" item so that it will play at the start of disc insertion, before any menus are shown. To do this, click the icon of Movie 3 and then click on First Play button, we have then selected the intro video as the First Play Movie. Notice that the First Play Movie is visually identified with an icon image distinct from a normal Movie icon.

Then you can edit the label of the movie, perform some basic editing, and create chapter points if needed. For details, check Step 2 of How to create a basic DVD with Womble EasyDVD?

Step 3. Now click Menu at the top buttons. Here we will add DVD menu.

To quickly add DVD menu, you can click and select a ready menu template from the list. You can also make your own one where you can change the background to a personal photo, add background music, reset the menu button style and so on. Here I will simply use the first template.

To apply a menu template, just select and double click it. Now we have added menu for the DVD, you will notice at the bottom of the right menu preview window there is a menu page list which consists of 4 menu page thumbnails. You can click on each menu page thumbnail to preview or edit the menu page. Here page 1 is main menu, the next three pages(page 2, page 3, page 4) are sub-menu pages (movie menus). On main menu page there are three buttons each of which is linked to corresponding movie menu.

Since we want the DVD to automatically return to main menu after completing the intro video playback, we need to go Source stage and set an End Action for the intro video. Now in the Source stage, right click on the intro video, select End Action and Page 1(main menu). By doing this, DVD will return to main menu after finishing playing the intro video.

Now we go back to Menu stage, here we will delete the intro video menu page(page 4) and its button on the main menu page. First select the third button on the main menu page and press Delete on the keyboard to delete the intro video button on the main menu.

Then select page4 in the menu page list and press Delete key to delete the intro video menu page.

Step 4. The most critical steps of adding intro video are setting First Play & End Action in Source stage and deleting intro video menu page and its button on main menu page in Menu stage. When finishing the steps above, we can then go to the next three steps: preview, output, burn our DVD. For details about the next three steps, you can check How to create a basic DVD with Womble EasyDVD?

Done.

In this guide I will show you how to use Womble EasyDVD to delete unwanted footage from DVD movie and then burn it back without any video quality loss. Womble EasyDVD is an excellent tool for small DVD edits or to author a new DVD from existing DVD footage, without the need for any re-encoding. So you don't have to wait to re-encode the whole movie and suffer the heavy quality loss for every little cut that is made.

Womble EasyDVD is not freeware, but don’t worry because you can try it for a month, without any limitations(no watermark, no function disabled or crippled). You can free download Womble EasyDVD here. You can also learn the other guides about Womble EasyDVD by following the links below:

How to create a basic DVD with Womble EasyDVD?

How to add an intro video to DVD before the main menu shows up?

How to put(combine, merge) multiple DVDs on a single DVD?

Now transfer your DVD into your hard drive and insert the blank DVD disc into the drive.

Step1.

Only Start and Source steps are accessible when you start EasyDVD, and the other steps are disabled since the project is empty. As soon as you add video files to the project, those other steps will be enabled, then you can jump to any step by clicking on the corresponding button.

Step2. The Source stage is where you can add in your input video files, perform some basic editing if needed, and create chapter points. Before we add in our input video files, you might notice that there are actually two “Add” buttons here. Well, the top “Add” button(1), with the movie reel icon, is for adding what EasyDVD refers to as "Movies". The bottom “Add” button(2) with the film strip icon is for adding "Clips". A "Movie" generally contains one or more clips; and each clip can be a single video file, or a whole or a part of a DVD movie.

Here we click the top “Add” button in Movie Manager(the upper left window), check “Open DVD folder” in the pop-up Open window, then browse to DVD file folder and click Open .

Then the DVD reader window pops up and you will see all the titles and chapters. Notice that the first title has the longest time in duration and this is probably going to be the main movie you want to edit. Select the main movie and click OK.

Then the DVD movie will be loaded into Womble EasyDVD keeping the original chapter structure, you can see the 3 chapter points in the right video preview window(1). Also a movie reel icon named Movie 1 is added in Movie Manager window to represent the movie(2). You can change the default Movie name(Movie 1) into the real one by selecting “Edit label” in the context menu(or press ‘F2′ on the keyboard).

Note that if there are more than one main movie titles in DVD reader, you can select the first main movie title, click OK and load the first main movie into EasyDVD as Movie 1, then you can click the top "Add" button again and add the second main movie title into EasyDVD as Movie 2, you can repeat the steps to load more DVD movies. Now select the movie clip in the Clip Manager(1), drag the sliderbar(2) and preview movie in the right video preview window(3).

Drag the slidebar and preview the movie, press the Mark in button (or press 'I' on the keyboard) when finding the beginning of the unwanted scenes, and press the Mark out button (or press 'O' on the keyboard) when finding the end of unwanted scenes. You can use the mouse scroll wheel or arrow keys to step forward or backward to get the exact frame. Since we have marked the segment to be deleted, now we press the Cut button to remove the marked segment.

Note here you can press "M" on the keyboard to add a chapter point wherever you want.

Step3. Now we go to Menu stage to add menus for the DVD. To quickly add menu for your movie, you can click and select a ready menu template from the list. Or you can make your own one where you can change the background to a personal photo, add an opening video before the menu displays, reset the menu button style and so on. I am not going to get into details here, I will just use the first menu template from the list(1), but you can fool around on your own with the advanced settings. While Womble EasyDVD will do its best to detect whether your source is PAL or NTSC, you should check to make sure that the right settings are selected here(2).

Step4. When you’re done with the menu, click Preview at the top buttons. Here you can do a final check on the menu design before outputting a DVD folder. If you don’t like what you see, you can go back to the menu window to make changes, and then come back to check it again.

Step 5. When you are ready to export the DVD project, click Output at the top buttons. You will notice that there are some output options on the left.

Folder path is where you want to store the DVD video – the “Video_TS” folder will be created under the path you specify here.

Output size is either a single layer or a dual layer disc – this option is useful when you want to reduce the size of the DVD movie to fit a DVD Disc(Please note Womble EasyDVD will either re-encode your video/audio to reduce the file size or it will do a “stream copy” which means the quality stays the same. You cannot “increase” quality by choosing the 7.92 GB option for a single layer project).

Action after export is to define the action to execute after export completion – if you want the editor to automatically start burning your DVD after finishing the authoring process, you can set “Start DVD burning” as the “Action after export”, but here we will just use the default setting(None) in case of disc waste.

Note at the bottom of the window there is a project encode map – the blue area shows the part of the video that won’t need re-encoding (stream copy), the red areas is the parts that need to be re-encoded. See the screenshot below, we will export the DVD without re-encoding.

Once all that’s done, click on the “Start” button to start the authoring process and sit back and wait.

Step 6. After finishing the export, you can preview the exported DVD folder using a DVD player software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD. If everything worked great, then you can click Burn at the top buttons to enter the final step of your DVD project workflow.

In the Burn stage, change the folder path to where you outputted your DVD files (should be selected automatically for you), and then choose your DVD burner(You may also choose to output to an ISO file for later burning) and then click on the Burn button to start burning your DVD video to a DVD disc. For the burning speed, it is recommended you burn at the slowest speed available to minimize the burning errors.

Done.

This guide will show you how to convert any video file and author your own DVD, create personalized menus with many templates, add subtitles to your videos and burn them directly to DVDs.

ConvertXtoDVD is a well known, award winning dvd authoring software that makes it easy for you to convert any video file and author your own DVD, create personalized menus with many templates, add subtitles, add effects to your videos and burn them directly to DVDs. In this guide we are going to show you how to create a custom DVD using the program. You can free download ConvertXtoDVD trial or buy it now(15% Off). Just install and run it so that we can move on with this guide.

Step1. This is the main ConvertXToDVD windows. May seem a little too basic now but you'll soon see how efficient it can be. For the beginning lets go to "Settings" -> "General".

First we will set the working folder, which is the folder that ConvertXToDVD will save the DVD files before burning them to a DVD. Make sure that the drive that the folder is in has many GBs of free space and set the working folder.

In the "Chapters" tab you can create Chapters in each Titleset for easier browsing them. Default value is 5 minutes for titlesets longer than 15 minutes. A chapter is an invisible mark in the video that helps you navigate through the film as you are watching it. Instead of fast-forwarding to a specific point you can jumpat intervals, these intervals are chapter points that you can determine here.

"Create Chapter every" allows you to automatically insert a chapter every X minutes or seconds. M = minutes, S = seconds. If unchecked, no chapters will be added automatically. Always a chapter point will be created at start of file. You can not delete this first one. In the main interface (Tree View) you can later manually add more chapters at specific places.

"For titleset longer than" means the program will insert a chapter at the value indicated above only if the video is longer than the specified duration. Always a chapter point will be created at start of file. You can not delete this first one ! For example this means that no additional chapters will be added if you would add a video that is only 10 minutes long, e.g. suitable for music video clips.

If you uncheck both settings and use the Add function to make 1 or more Titleset(s), you will end up with a DVD with one or more Title(s) and only a chapter point at start of each Title.

Next in "DVD specification" tab you can select between PAL (for Europe) and NTSC (for US and Asia), as well as adjust the video resolution just in case you want to do this. Default values are ok however.

Step2. We are back to the main windows and its time to add some file to our DVD. To do so, simply click on the green cross button (1) and select the video files you want to convert. You’ll have then a video file list on the program’s interface. ConvertXtoDVD will automatically create a DVD menu and each video file will become a separate titleset (2).

Since a DVD disk has certain space the more files you add the worst the quality of the final DVD will be since ConvertXtoDVD will encode them to fit in a single disk. Therefore you can have a look at the "Conversion advisor" (3) to see what the quality will be. For about 1h 30m of video quality will be excellent. For less than 3h you will have pretty good quality. You can watch the movie without any problems.

Step3.

If you don't need DVD menu, you can select "No menu" from the menu template list to disable the current menu.

Step4. Click the + beside DVD Options (1) to reveal all options for the Menu item. Lets see the options one by one. First you can edit the text which will be shown at top of the title menu by double-clicking on it and setting the name (2). Next, you can customize the Menu with fonts and your music and background image if you want (3). You can also select how the DVD should behave by setting DVD play options (4):

* Auto-start Playback: If this is selected the menu will be skipped when the disc is inserted into a DVD player, the menu will be shown after the Title.

* Loop playback: Instead of going back to the Title Menu when the last Title (video) on the disc has finished playing, if this option is selected you will be returned to the first Title (video), instead of the Menu.

* Play titles one after the other: With this option selected, each Title (video) on the disc will play sequentially, that is when the first is finished, it will automatically play the second and so on, without going back to the Menu.

* Skip root menu initially: The Menu that will display when you insert the DVD is the "Title Menu". Each Titleset (video) also has its own "Root Menu". If this option is selected, then you will bypass the Root Menu when you select a video on the Title Menu.

* Return to the title menu after titleset playback: This is closely related to the above setting. In this case, one a titleset has finished playing, it will return straight to the Title Menu and bypass the Root Menu altogether.

* Don't create title menu for single video: If selected, any DVD you are making with ConvertXtoDVD that contains just one video will not have a Title Menu at all, as it really doesn't require a Menu.

Step5. Right next comes the video properties. First in the Titleset menu you can add thumbnails of each Titleset for easier and faster access to them. By default the thumbnail will be taken from the first frame of each video. However you can change this by double clicking on the thumbnail option (1).

You will notice the audio of each video has been automatically imported (2) as ConvertXToDVD supports almost all formats. But you can also add you own audio (for example commentary) by right-clicking on Audio and selecting Add Audio. You can also click on each audio channel and set the language.

Then we move to the subtitle settings. If you had the subtitles in the same folder with each video file and they also have the same name they will be automatically inserted (3). If you don't, right click on the "Subtitle (0 stream)" and browse to where you keep them.

Finally you can review the Chapters (4) and add more if you like as well as edit the Titleset name which is what will appear in the main menu as the title of this video. Follow the same steps to configure all your videos and move to the next step.

Step6. We are finally ready to convert. You may want of course to see how your final DVD menu will look like. To do this click the Preview button (1) and you can take a look at the whole DVD, including the menus in the Video Preview Window (2). If you are satisfied with the result click Convert (3) to start the converting process!

Step7. When the conversion is over you will be prompted to insert a blank DVD disk in your DVD burner and the burn process will start.

Finally burning finishes and your new DVD is ready for your player. Enjoy!

If you’re a regular YouTube viewer, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of trying to save your favorite videos. The movies are presented in the Flash Video (FLV) format which enables highly-compressed streaming video to effectively play in most browsers. However, the inconvenience with this type of format is that you will not be able to download it by using your Save Target As option.

There are three common ways available to download/capture/save streaming videos online to your computer:

1. Capture with Web sites
2. Capture with a Firefox extension
3. Capture with commercial programs

1. Capture with Web sites

KeepVid and YouTube Downloader are download-helper websites that allow users to input the URL of a page which contains a video they wish to download. What great about download-helper website is that you need not to download it since it is not a software. All you have to do is to enter the URL source of the video you want to save. The website then begins to convert the video into a downloadable format (such as Mpeg or FLV) which can be saved on the hard-drive.

Download Links:

KeepVid: http://keepvid.com/
Youtube Downloader: http://www.youddl.com/

2. Capture with a Firefox extension

Mozilla Firefox is a web browser whose Video DownloadHelper extension allows the user to download videos directly off websites. This application runs both on Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. What’s great about Video DownloadHelper is that it saves streaming video from over 60 websites and supports extensions like AVI, FLV, iPOD and PSP.

First download and install Mozilla Firefox if you have not already done so. Mozilla Firefox 3.5 can be downloaded at
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

When Firefox’s installation is complete, you can now download the Video DownloadHelper extension at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006

Click “Add to firefox” button, and then download the extension by clicking on the “Install Now” button in the prompt window. After a few seconds, you will see your new extension in the “Adds-on” window. New extensions will be active after you restart Firefox.

After installation, the toolbar should have the icon located to the left-hand side of your address bar. You should first load the page containing the video stream to use this option. Once you have loaded the right page, click on the down arrow next to your video downloadHelper icon, choose a video format and then save the video. By default it will save it as an FLV format file.

3. Capture with commercial programs

There are available commercial softwares online that require installation. They can be used to download the streaming videos to your computer. Some have the option to convert your FLV format files into Mpeg or AVI files.

CamStudio

You may want to do away with those annoying advertisements in between your favorite recorded TV shows or explicit scenes in a movie not suitable for family viewing. The following three guides will show you how to remove commercials or other unwanted scenes from MPEG files without hampering the audio or video quality. If your video is other format, like AVI, ASF, RMVB, WMV etc., you can follow guide 2 to delete ads or unwanted footage which will need re-encoding your video.

Tool: MPEG Video Wizard DVD

MPEG Video Wizard DVD is a frame accurate MPEG editor which comes with DVD authoring and full AC3 audio support. It is nice, especially for those capturing MPEG with ATI or Hauppauge cards, or from files made on DVD recorders. It will edit MPEG files without degradeing the quality at all. It’s not freeware, but don’t worry because you can try it for a month. You can free download it from here.

Now start the program and let's begin：

Guide 1. Remove commercials from MPEG files with the blank fades search function

Step1. Drag your video file from its folder into the "Input" monitor.

Step2. Right click in the input monitor and select "BookMark Browser" from the context menu. This will bring up the bookmark browser window.

Step3. Press "BlankFades" button in the Bookmarks window to search the blank fades. When it is done, you should have quite a few "bookmarks" of scenes where fades have been detected. We will then drag the video onto the timeline using the "Drag" button – just click on this button, hold it and then drag it onto the timeline's video track (the top most track). You can now close the Bookmark Browser window.

Step4. Notice now on the timeline the many sections where the BlankFades function divided the video whenever there was a fade. You can double click on each section to play the video in the "Input" monitor and make sure it is a commercial break. Make sure to check any small segments just before and after, as these may be part of the commercial break too.

Step5. To delete the commercial breaks, simply click on the section you want to delete and press Shift+Delete key combination to remove it (or right-click on the commercial break, select "Shifted Delete" from the context menu). Repeat this for every commercial break.

Step6. Preview the output to make sure everything is fine by using the playback controls in the "Output" monitor.

Step7. When you're done, click the red dot button on the timeline. In the Save As window, type your file name, select Automatic as file type, and then click Save to export all the clips to a new MPEG file. To check if your video needs re-encoding, click on the Detail button, which opens up a new Export MPEG detail information window – the blue area shows the part of the video that won't need re-encoding (stream copy), the red areas is the parts that need to be re-encoded. See the screenshot below, we will export all the clips to a new MPEG file without re-encoding.

Guide 2. Edit out unwanted scenes with the split function

Step1. Drag your video file from its folder onto video track (the top most track) of the timeline.

Then locate the end of the commercial break in the same way and split again.

Step3. Click on the section you want to delete and press Shift+Delete key combination to remove it(or right-click on the unwanted part, select "Shifted Delete" from the context menu).

Step4. Repeat 2 and 3 for all unwanted parts, then preview the output to make sure everything is fine by using the playback controls in the "Output" monitor. When you're done, click the red dot button on the timeline to export all the clips to a new MPEG file.

Guide 3. Delete unwanted footage from MPEG files with the cut function

Step1. Drag your video file from its folder into the “Input” monitor.

Step2. Find the beginning of the unwanted segment by dragging the timeline slider and press the Mark-In button. You can use the mouse scroll wheel to step forward or backward to get the exact frame. Then move forward to find the end of the unwanted scene and press the Mark-Out button. Now press the Cut button to cut out the marked segment.

Step3. Repeat 2 for all unwanted parts. At this point, you may want to check your editing result by opening the Property display window, which is accessed by right mouse clicking in the "Input" monitor and selecting "Properties…" In this window, you can see a small map of segments for the current playback list. The solid blue colored areas are the segments remained; while the other ones are the segments being cut.

Step 4. Now, the video in the Input monitor are only the segments of the show, and we are ready to save it into a new MPEG file. Press 'G' on the keyboard to add the list of the segments into the timeline. Then preview the output to make sure everything is fine by using the playback controls in the “Output” monitor.

So you have a great DVDs which is amazingly convenient for watching the movie on a TV. Now you want to rip the movie from the disc and email it around so everyone could watch the clip on their PC.

But you might already know that DVD files, even non-encrypted ones like those created by a camcorder, are stored in a proprietary format. Size is another concern: The three-minute video clip was 150MB large, much too big to email around or for web use.

This article will tell you how to convert DVD to AVI or WMV or other formats for web use. You’ll first need to download OJOsoft DVD Ripper which is a one click solution to rip DVD movies and convert to all popular video/audio formats, like AVI, MP4, 3GP, MPEG, WMV, MOV, FLV, MP3, M4A, WMA, WAV etc.

Now let’s begin…

Step 1. Insert your DVD to DVD-ROM and launch OJOsoft DVD Ripper. The layout of the software is shown in the screenshot below.

Step 2. Select the output video format

Select the output video format by clicking the corresponding buttons at the top of the window. In this example we will convert the DVD movie to avi format.

Step 3. Load DVD movie

Click the upper “Browse…” button and select your DVD-ROM to load the DVD movie(You can also click this button to Open VIDEO_TS Folder in your hard drive for input). After adding the DVD movie, you will see all the titles of the DVD movie. A DVD ‘Title’ is generally a logically distinct section of a DVD-Video. For example the main feature film on a DVD might be Title 1, a behind-the-scenes documentary might be Title 2 and a selection of cast interviews might be Title 3. There can be up to 99 Titles on any DVD. As usual, the title which has the longest time in duration is the main movie. You can remove the title you don’t like to convert by unchecking the title.

Step 4. Set output folder path

Click the lower “Browse…” button to set output folder path where you want to store the converted video.

Step 5. Set conversion parameters if needed.

Click the drop-down list next to AVI profile to select a preset profile for the output AVI file. Or you can click “Edit… “ button to set more details, if you want to customize the parameters of your selected profile. You can set “Subtitle”, “Audio” to what you like. By checking “Split by chapters”, you will convert each chapter of your DVD movie to an individual AVI file.

Step 6. Start converting process

After you have set up all the conversion parameters, the only thing left to do is to hit the big “Convert” button to start DVD ripping and converting.

Done.

This guide will tell you how to pluck your favorite videos from 2 different DVD discs and combine them on one new playable DVD disc without re-encoding.

There are times when your favorite videos are small enough to fit on one disc but they're scattered across several discs. This guide will tell you how to pluck your favorite videos from 2 different DVD discs and combine them on one new playable DVD disc without re-encoding.

Possible uses for this guide:

1. Taking 2 or more different movies and creating 1 DVD out of them

2. Combining 2 or more DVD's to 1 DVD-R or DVD+R

3. Joining a double sided DVD (meaning you have to take the disc out and flip it over to watch the rest) to a single sided DVD-R or DVD+R

Tool: Womble EasyDVD. It's not freeware, but don’t worry because you can try it for a month. You can free download it here. You can also learn the other guides about Womble EasyDVD by following the links below:

How to create a basic DVD with Womble EasyDVD?

How to add an intro video to DVD before the main menu shows up?

Now transfer your DVDs into your hard drive, insert the blank DVD disc into the drive and run Womble EasyDVD.

Step 1. Create a new DVD project

Click "New" button in the Start stage, then the editor will automatically jump to the Source stage.

Step 2. Import DVD files

The Source stage is where you can add in your input video files, perform some basic editing if needed, and create chapter points.

Before we add in our input video files, you might notice that there are actually two "Add" buttons here. Well, the top “Add” button, with the movie reel icon, is for adding what EasyDVD refers to as “Movies”. The bottom “Add” button with the film strip icon is for adding “Clips”. A “Movie” generally contains one or more clips; and each clip can be a single video file, or a whole or a part of a DVD movie.

Here we click the top "Add" button in Movie Manager(the upper left window), check "Open DVD folder" in the pop-up Open window, then browse to your first DVD file folder and click Open . In the pop-up DVD reader window, select the main movie(which has the longest time in duration) and click OK.

After adding the DVD files, a movie reel icon named Movie 1 is added in Movie Manager window to represent the movie. Now repeat steps above to import the second DVD movie.

You can change the default Movie name(Movie 1, Movie 2) into the real one by selecting “Edit label” in the context menu(or press 'F2' on the keyboard).

Step3. Add menu

After finishing import DVD movies, click Menu at the top buttons.

To quickly add menu for your movie, you can click and select a ready menu template from the list. Or you can make your own one where you can change the background to a personal photo, add an opening video before the menu displays, reset the menu button style and so on. I am not going to get into details here, I will just use the first menu template from the list, but you can fool around on your own with the advanced settings.

Step 4. Preview

When you’re done with the menu, click Preview at the top buttons. Here you can do a final check on the menu design before outputting a DVD folder. If you don’t like what you see, you can go back to the menu window to make changes, and then come back to check it again.

Step 5. Output

Action after export is to define the action to execute after export completion – if you want the editor to automatically start burning your DVD after finishing the authoring process, you can set "Start DVD burning" as the "Action after export", but here we will just use the default setting(None) in case of disc waste.

Once all that’s done, click on the “Start” button to start the encoding and authoring process and sit back and wait.

Step 6. Burn

After finishing the export, you can preview the exported DVD folder using a DVD player software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD. If everything worked great, then you can click Burn at the top buttons to enter the final step of your DVD project workflow.

In the Burn stage, choose your DVD burner(You may also choose to output to an ISO file for later burning) and then click on the Burn button to start burning your DVD video to a DVD disc. For the burning speed, it is recommended you burn at the slowest speed available to minimize the burning errors.
